Chapter 2 of Hope In the Midst of Agony - Where's Carson? |
Racing endless paths across the bleak playground, the girl finds no trace of her little brother, Carson. Terror sets in as she sinks to her knees, oblivious of the spiky mulch digging its way in through her skin. Tears trail down her face as she sobs hysterically, shoulders shaking uncontrollably. Within less than a minute, she gathers her thoughts and realizes how irrational she's being. Crying isn't going to bring Carson back, it's not going to solve anything at all. She decides the best plan of action is to figure out who would want Carson, and the never-ending list brings back all the traumatic memories. You see, most adults would love Carson, with his perfect manners, adorable blond hair, perfect button nose and an infectious laugh. But there's something about Carson which would make certain adults want him so much, well, they'd hunt for him. They believed he was an alien. Sure, it seems like something out of a bad sci-fi movie, but when Carson's sister and him were scavenging for food and were caught, no fingerprints were found when Carson was "arrested" or atleast, as arrested as a six year old could be. Carson's sister knew this was just craziness, she saw Carson being born. She wasn't crazy as far as she knew, but the people hunting him definitely had some mental instabilities. Coming back to reality, Sophie zombie-walked over to the merry-go-round and retrieved the sleeping bags. She had to go back to the only place that could help her. She needed advice, and turning to go to the church, she saw a man with a slab of wood. The fall was sudden - and Sophie blacked out. |
