Johnny's experience of Christmas at Grandma's house.
While dreaming of sugar plums dancing in his head,
and lying so snuggly in his bed,
Johnny was awoken by a faint sound
of a blizzard of snowflakes falling to the ground.

As he arose, to stretch and yawn,
realizing the day was Christmas’ dawn,
he looked out the window to see the snow,
knowing exactly where he was to go.

Dressed in his pajamas, and rushed downstairs,
where the stockings were hung with the utmost care,
and all of his presents placed under the tree,
Johnny’s face lit up with glee.

He began to run and leap to the gifts;
his acts were met by his parents with rifts.
“You know what we do on Christmas day.
Hurry up and get dressed, then we’re on our way.”

Johnny sprang to his room and began to dress,
throwing on his khakis and his Sunday vest.
He hurried down the stairs, very ready to go,
and rushed out the door to be met by the snow.

Out to the car he rushed to wait,
he yelled for his parents, “let’s not be late.”
On the road, they began to drive;
Little Johnny sat patiently, waiting to arrive.

When they turned the corner to this familiar place,
Johnny’s heart began to race.
As they pulled up, Johnny looked in awe;
he ran out, gave a hug and yelled, “Grandma!”

After the hug, the rushed into the home,
once through the door, he began to roam.
He gazed at all he enjoyed to see,
wandering through the house with the utmost glee.

In his ears, many Christmas songs,
Johnny knew where he belongs.
As he enjoyed every Christmas sound,
he could not help but spin himself around.

The scent of sugar cookies filled the air,
which made Johnny want to grab a chair.
He sat at the table, to see such the scatter,
frosting, sprinkles and cookies, all on a platter.

After decorating his tasty treat,
into the living room, they were called to meet.
There they sat, nearest the tree,
while waiting for his gifts, Johnny was as giddy as can be.

On the mark, did chaos proceed;
they all tore open boxes, to see what received.
The parents’ gifts were practical, and Johnny got toys,
and the smile from Johnny’s face gave Grandma all sorts of joys.

Off Johnny want, after hugs and a kiss,
to play with his toys, he did not want to miss.
As he played, and played and played,
a call came from Grandma, as dinner had been made.

To the dinner table Johnny ran,
to see what was for dinner, as only he can.
Johnny was met by all his favorite food,
patiently waiting for his mom, as he didn’t want to be rude.

During dinner, he ate quite a feast,
and once he was done he begged to be released,
in hopes that he could go back to play,
and enjoy the rest of his day.

As the evening loomed, and he grew tired,
he sat in the lap, of the one he admired.
“Grandma, can we hear the story?”
“Yes we can, Dear, don’t you worry.”

Grandma scurried to grab Johnny’s favorite book,
and sat Johnny on his lap, so he had a good look.
“’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.”

As Grandma read that beloved tale,
the tale that Johnny knows very well.
He closed his eyes and drifted to sleep,
a moment which Grandma will forever keep.
