SILVER WINGS

It had been another hectic day at WPAFB. Ever since Yeager had showboated and almost died in the crash, simultaneously causing the new program to barely survive, pressure had been a byword.
When I had been chosen as a member of the inaugural class of rocket men, life felt great. Now, with another deadline closing in, and the unexplainable, unforeseen blackouts continually causing an alarm for me life had become overwhelming. My life dreams were fast turning into a nightmare. I kept reassuring myself that I had made the grade. Lt. Colonel Michael Bennington “Flying Mike” had overcome greater tribulations than these. After all the tests for endurance, mental acuity, pain thresholds and intelligence games the new requirements would not be a road block for me. After all my motto had always been “If it had wings I was meant to fly it”.
As I arrived at the hidden facility to continue the regiment of tests  I was surprised to learn that instead of a new battery of flight simulations, I was scheduled to repeat a routine test on the inertia, weightless, zero gravity simulator. As I was fitted into my flight suit I tried to erase the negatives going through my subconscious. While I was lifted into my seat it seemed all the old feelings of confidence returned.
Awakening, the first thought to enter my mind, as I looked at the sputnik monkey, was “How did you get in here”.
