Poem written to express my anger with my mother.
ANGRY

This is to let you know how angry I am with you.
I’m angry about horrible and hideous you treated me as a child
         and an adult too!
I hate you for giving me this undaunting task of healing myself from all the damage you bestowed on me,
         especially as a child.
I’m angry with you for all the put downs.
I’m angry with you for all the lectures.
I’m angry with you for the beatings,
         even though they were minimal.
I’m angry with you for all the broken promises.
I’m angry with you for all the times you didn’t support me in my beliefs.
I’m angry with you for all the times you embarrassed me,
especially in public and in front of my friends.
I’m angry with you for leaving me with memories of an unhappy childhood.
I’m just so damn angry.

I’m angry at you for not letting me be a child;
you took so much away from me in my formative years.
I’m angry at you for being so sick yourself and never admitting it.
Why couldn’t you get yourself better?
If not for yourself,
couldn’t you have done it for your kids?
I’m angry at you for not making me feel loved.
I don’t remember you even saying the words,
“I Love You” until I was about 25 years old.
What took you so long?
