Six Unfortunates, One Winner, Who would betray their own team to win?
The waves were rough, the wind was strong and the temperature was freezing. I was on a boat heading towards a haunted old tower with some creepy looking old man, my sister Erica, my best friend Jayden and with 3 girls similar to my age. It wasn’t one of those really nice luxury boats. It was more like those medium-sized rowing boats that were brown and old fashioned looking.

“I’m scared!” shivered Jayden. Jayden was usually the quiet guy, the one that was just shy.

“There’s no need to be afraid.” I assured, “Everything’s going to be alright.”

We soon reached an old creepy looking tower. It had approximately 6 floors and a huge silver bell on the top. Once we had all reached the tower, we were all then lined up for a lift to take us to the top to be tested. When we reached the top we were all given a nametag and an earpiece that we were forced to wear. Maybe because it’s for safety but who knows, all I want right now is to escape this tower! A short few seconds later, we were walking towards the top floor of the tower.

The 6th floor of the tower looked like some sort of scientist lab that belongs to some creepy scientist. There was even a cage with a very old wheel so you can open and close the cage. Inside the cage was three zombie lookalike people that didn’t seem like they were acting. In fact, they looked rather realistic.

“Where are we?” asked Mary, a confused girl that I didn’t really know.

“Be quiet and stand in line. All of you!” demanded an eerie female voice; “All of you must be quiet for at least 30 seconds. I am known as The Voice. I’ll tell you when you can speak.”

It was very quiet after that for a while. Nobody moved, talked or even looked at each other. Suddenly a noise came out from the room but instead of the voice, it was the old caretaker telling us what to do.

“There are 6 floors. To past each floor you must work as a team to pass each challenge but there’s always a saboteur working against the others. It will be your job to find out who the saboteur is and then to uncover him or her. Now let me tell you how to pass the 1st challenge. This is the Tower Lab. To pass this challenge, you must rebuild a mummy from body parts scattered around the room. Easy, eh? Hah!! Well, it would be, if the lab didn't keep having power cuts! If this happens, they must beware, as someone may release the Botherers. They must deal with the Botherers and complete the body in 90 seconds, or they will fail!”

The voice then immediately spoke saying, “To pass, you must have completed the body before the time is up. Let the challenge begin… - now!”

At the point that everybody was rushing to find the body parts and to put them on the centre table, everybody had the feeling that someone was going to try and lose the challenge secretly.

“At least the mummy’s not alive!” my best friend Jayden stated while everyone was still working on putting the mummy back together.

“If it is alive then that would ruin the point of the game,” replied Amanda, a blonde haired girl who is basically one of these girls who would end up becoming popular.

Before the body was even finished, the lights blacked out for a few seconds. I can’t really see in the darkness, I could only hear. Unfortunately the only noise I could hear was the wheel being turned around. I knew exactly that someone has sabotaged the challenge. Luckily the light came back on but who knows how much time we have left to complete the challenge. We had to rebuild the body, get rid of the Botherers and to lock the cage. There were two problems though. One was that Mary, one of the girls that I hardly knew has fainted and that there might be a blackout soon. My other teammates were probably thinking the same as this time they tried to be move more quickly but then ended up tripping over each other. Fortunately we at least managed to close the cage and lock the Botherers in the cage as well. Suddenly a blackout occurred but luckily this time, the cage didn’t open. It’s as if someone has bothered to give up. After the lights turned backed on, we suddenly heard The Voice counting down from ten. I knew what was going to happen soon if we fail and I wasn’t going to let it happen!

“…Nine...”

Everyone was slowly getting up after tripping.

“…Seven…”

Teammates were getting body pieces.

“…Five…”

The body is finished – wait! Where’s the heart?

“…Three, Two…”

It was too late as I soon began to realise that one of the Botherers were holding the missing heart.

“Oh sh-“ I snapped before The Voice interrupted me from completing my sentence.

“Your time is up! You have failed miserably!” exclaimed The Voice as it echoed across the room, “It’s now time to vote for who do you think the saboteur was and why!”

It was now time to accuse someone from destroying the game. There were a lot of suspects that we accused. Basically the only ones that didn’t get accused were Jayden and Lindsay, a red-haired girl.
After everyone has accused somebody, The Voice told everyone who the saboteur was which was surprisingly my best friend, Jayden.

“The majority of you have voted for… Amanda!” The Voice yelled evilly, “Amanda, you’ll not be leaving this room! The others are free the move on to the next room.

The next two floors were too creepy to even imagine, there were ghostly brides, portraits of men (which was creepy enough because they weren’t women) and even a deadly python! I couldn’t really believe how evil this tower really is to the extent that you have to betray your own teammates to pass on to the next floor. By the time we reached to the 4th challenge, there were only 3 players left, just my sister, Amanda and me. The 3rd floor looked was designed to look like the inside of a circus tent. There were all sorts of things that belonged in this floor. The only thing that was unusual was that there was a man with an eye patch who looked like he was hosting a familiar carnival game involving three cups neatly placed along a row.

“Welcome to Floor 3!” The Voice boomed, “The One-Eyed-Watcher! To pass this challenge, you must correctly guess the location of the eyeball two times out of three! Let the challenge begin… -Now!”

You and the other two players turn your attention to the man. The man was smiling as he started his carnival game.

“Pay close attention to the eyeball.” The man warns. He then lifts up the middle cup revealing an eyeball. Maybe that’s why he’s wearing an eye patch. He then lowers the cup, preparing for the fun bit. He soon jumbles up all of the cups until he is satisfied.

“Now where is it?” asks the man. You all discuss about where the eyeball is.

“I think it’s the middle cup,” said Amanda.

“I’m not so sure. I think it’s the left cup,” said Erica.

“I have to agree with my sister on this one. Let’s all go the left cup,” I agreed.

“So you all agree on the left one?” asked the man.

“Yes,” we all nodded. The man first lifted up the left cup but finds that it is not there. He lowers the left cup and raises the middle cup next revealing the eyeball.

“What a shame,” the man responded, “The next round you have to get correctly.”

This time he jumbled it a bit faster. It was even more confusing then the last one and the jumbling was a bit longer. He soon stopped.

“Remember,” The man warned, “If you don’t get this one right, you will fail this challenge! Now where is it?”

“I think the right one now,” muttered Amanda.

“Maybe the left one?” replied Erica.

“Let’s just go with the right cup.” I said.

“Why the left cup?” asked Erica.

“Because Amanda might be right.” I replied.

“So you all agree on the right cup?” asked the man.

Amanda and me nodded while Erica just did nothing. He lifted the cup to find that the eyeball was there under the cup.

“One correct and one wrong. Let’s see what the outcome will be in the final round.” The man responded.

This time it was uber fast. The jumbling was twice as long as the last one and the speed was about five times as fast. Amanda seemed to be the most focused. Maybe I can trust her…

“Now where is it?” the man asked. It was the final round and this time the discussion took longer.

“This time it’s definitely the middle cup!” Amanda seemed sure about it.

“How can you be sure?” Erica asked.

“I’m just going to trust Amanda one last time.” I reply.

“I don’t really think so!” complained Erica.

“C’mon. If we lose we could just vote of Amanda.” I said.

“So you all agree on the middle cup!” the man asks.

Everyone who was still left nodded, except for Erica who just shook her head as if she was saying no.

“The majority of you say the middle cup.” The man requested, “Let us find out the final result!”

He lifted the middle cup one last time revealing an eyeball. I don’t really want to vote for my sister even though I clearly know who the saboteur really was now. The Bell from the top of the tower rang soon after the challenge was complete.

“Your time is up. You have successfully passed this challenge therefore the saboteur is automatically trapped on this floor.” The Voice boomed, “But before we do that you must vote on who the saboteur might’ve been. Erica, who do you think the saboteur was?”

“I think the saboteur was Tim because he kept disagreeing with my options.” Replied Erica. I was shocked that my sister would vote against me. I was almost in tears.

“Amanda. Who do you think the saboteur was?

“I think the saboteur was Erica because she was trying to get everyone to lose the challenge.”

“Timothy. Who do you think the saboteur was and why?”

“I think the saboteur was me beca-“

“Why did heck did you vote for yourself?”

“Because I don’t want to vote for my sister and I think that Amanda isn’t the saboteur.”

“Fine then because the votes don’t count and now I’m about the reveal who the saboteur was.” The Voice boomed, “The saboteur was… Erica. Erica, how do you feel trapped on this floor.”

“I feel really terrible.” Sobbed Erica.

“Amanda and Tim. You may proceed to the final floor.”

Amanda and me soon then jumped into the final room. The last room was completely different from the others. Instead of actually making the room have a theme, the room was almost completely empty.

“Welcome to the Final Floor, Fight for Freedom.” The Voice Boomed, “In this challenge, you are chained towards the wall. Every time you answer a question correctly, you take one step forward towards the key of freedom. Answer a question wrong and your opponent takes one step forward. You only need to answer four questions right to win this challenge. Ready, Set… Go!”

“Timothy. What was the name of the 2nd Challenge you faced?”

“Midnight Bride!” you answer.

“Correct! Take one step forward to the key of freedom. Amanda. Who was the saboteur in Floor 3?”

“Erica!” Amanda replies.

“Correct! Take one step closer to the Key of Freedom. Timothy. How many Botherers were there on Floor 6?”

“Three!” you spoke.

Correct! Take one step closer to the key of Freedom. Amanda. What was the species of the python in Snake Attack?”

Amanda went blank.

“Times Up! Albino Ball Python. Timothy, take one step forward. If you answer this question correct, you will win the challenge. How many holes were in the wall of Snake Attack?”

“Five!” you manage to answer.

“Correct! Timothy, you have the won the key of freedom. Take the key and leave the tower, before I change my mind!” the voice boomed. I soon jumped through the hole now finally out of the tower. Now, how to escape…
