A path, follow if you will
The Path

She took a hit.
She smacked the floor.
Pushing to her feet she
Walks out, slams the door.

In the dark
Alone again.
A tear streaks down.
But is it the end?

A path lays there
Empty and untried.
Draw a deep breath.
Take a stride.
A second, a third...

Blood rushes in her ears.
Stars smile overhead.
The silence screaming.
Onward, upward
Pushing forward.

Away from defeat.
The bitter words.
A heart that has taken
A brutal beating.
A tangle of emotions
Seething...

The steps grow faster, stronger.
Pressing play, it's her song.
Memories flow.
More tears fall,
The anger, the pain, the doubt...
Well and float.
Fingers brush them away.

A hand takes hers.
Tugs,
Draws her close.
She speaks...
At long last.
He listens...
Finally.

Another tear falls,
Wetting her cheek.
Not hers...
This is something different.
Something new.
Not a repeat of the same
Old show...

Could they learn?
Could they fix it?
Could they return?
Could they follow a new path?
Could they come back around?
Begin again?

Lost...
But not alone.
A moral compass
Points the way.
Forgive, forget.
Keeping faith.
Even as they walk away.

The path goes on,
He traces her cheek.
A smile peeks...
Hoping...Dreaming.
Dark tides ebb.
Secrets revealing.
A path...

The path shines
Limed in starlight.
Twisting, turning.
Through pools of shadow.
And dappled woods.

There are challenges
Hidden all along its length.
Resolve strengthens, spines stiffen.
Hand in hand
They take the first step
Together...
Following the path
Down away from that
Damn door...
