Measure of a Man


A man is not measured by his hidden heart or his concealed mind,

It is not the ideas he never says that we hear, nor the smile he never smiles that we see,

His words and actions alone are how we judge, how we remember.

But that is not to say a man should have no hidden heart or veiled thoughts - if not from places we do not see he plucks his words, his actions, then they are not his and he is not he.

So is the true measure of a man just what we see, or is it how he measures himself when no-one is looking.

What he alone sees in his shadows when he shines his light.

This is more important than what he chooses for our judging eyes to see. Surely?

Can a sad man look happy? Can a killer look kind?
