Eyes focused on everything except the road, I always ignored the paths I choose,
I kept my head down with shame in the past; head lifted up now as I stare through the glass,
Breathing in air and coughing out smoke, the windows are up and each gasp is a rope,
The warnings make sense it must be a sign, should listen to reason but sight has gone blind.
Cruise control on and the gas tank has dried,
No control of the wheel or where we’ll divide,
From this spot in the universe where bodies collide,
To make mess of simple beauty nature designed.
A fork in the road and a knife in my heart, spooning a hate for a careless remark,
A break in my life and around the next bend, a collision course caused, abandoned again,
On the fence and yet over the stream, I wonder if I’ll awake to during the final scene,
Last act of this play on words in my mind; open my eyes just to see if they’re still mine.
Cruise control on and the gas tank has dried,
No control of the wheel or where we’ll divide,
From this spot in the universe where bodies collide,
To make mess of simple beauty nature designed.
