Scott's 18th b-day on Candor
“Good morning Scotty.”  The robotic voice sounded as the door opened.
“Morning Will.”  The young man yawned as he rubbed his eyes.  “Anyone answer our hail last night?”  He had asked this every morning and gotten the same answer for the last seven years.  But this morning instead of the usual ‘No sir, I will resend the signal.’  He heard something different.
“I have not checked yet sir.  I wanted to wish you a happy birthday first.”  The robot’s face almost formed a smile as he continued.  “If I calculate right its your 18th.”
Had it been that long since they had been left alone.  He had just had his 11th birthday party two weeks before the attacks began.  Everyone had been killed except him.  Just as he was about to tell Will that it didn’t matter what day it was he noticed that the robot was holding something behind his back.
Will had been a limited line of androids that were programed with emotional quirks into their A.I. brains.  “I hope it is not too forwards but I made this for you.”  Holding out a small craving of a small boy holding the hand of a taller robot sanded out of a red rock.  “It is not much but its how I see you.”
Times like this Scotty almost forgot  Will was an Andriod.  “thank you Will Its wonderful.”  With this simple act and this simple thing today had become a special day.
“No one answered our signal," Will's emotionless voice stated. "I’ll resend it”
