tintern abbey piece

we lay upon the cool and grainy sand,
and bask in the warmth of the july sun.
you twirl a strand of my hair in small circles.
the sunlight glowing behind my eyelids,
i smile as my skin melts beneath your touch.
stuck in the lazy trance of summer’s heat,
we make our way back to our rented home
just in time to see the big sun go down.

leaning against the whitewashed porch, i glance
over to see you quietly rocking
to the rhythm of the gentle blue waves.
you smile, your dimple peeking out. and in
a moment, your arms are wrapped around me
as we gaze out to watch helios slowly
hiding from the great silver moon and its
tiny glittering minions called the stars.

the horizon tinted orange and red
melts like sherbet into the ocean blue.
the sky starts out as glowing tangerines
but darkens to a deep pomegranate.
eventually, a blueberry blanket
cloaks the heavens, tucking the angels in
to their comfortable cumulus clouds.
the night light switches on, the twinkling stars
reflected onto the deep, dark blue shore.

i turn to face you, only to see two
stars glimmering in your chocolate brown eyes.
you hold me tight, my heart threat’ning to burst.
we stand and watch, just watch and listen, to
remember this night, this moment, this love.
