A study of Faith

          8-2-2012

Faith lay in her mud bath. Mephistopheles recounted to her the story of creation.

"The endless praises of the choirs of angels had begun to grow wearisome; for after all
did God know his own glory? Would it not be more amusing to recieve praise for underserved
praise; to be worshiped by beings whom He tortured? Had not God given them endless joy?

Faith answered: "For countless ages the hot nebula whirled through space. At length it began to
take shape, the central mass threw off planets, the planets cooled, boiled seas
and burning mountains, tossing black masses of clouds raining hot sheets of
rain on the lava crust. And now the first germ of life grew green in the depths of
the oceans, warm air steamed into vast forests of damp mold and insects. And
from these monsters as the play unfloded came Adam."

Mephistopheles interupted: "Adam was born with a cruel thirst for knowledge. He saw the passing of this world
in its mad struggle to snatch, at any cost, a few brief moments of life before Death's
                                                decree."

Faith continued: "And Adam said, 'It is not good for man to be alone.' There is a purpose beyond that is good and
most be reverence. And he stood aside from the struggle resolving that God intended harmony.
He called the instincts of the beasts of prey 'Sin' and asked God to forgive him."

Mephistopheles continued: "But, Adam doubted he could be forgiven. He could not fathom the hidden purpose in
a savage land. He gave thanks to the invisible world of God's Divine Plan and forgo the
                                              carnal joys that were possible."

Faith smiled and rose from the mud; "And God smiled and when He saw Adam had become perfect in renunciation
and worship; He made woman. And all returned to chaos."

Faith showed herself in the Nile and was a naked and unashamed woman of great beauty and desire.+
