You sat across from me in 3rd period.
I almost said hi.
Since first meeting you
Almost three days went by.

To think,
I almost knew your favorite song
I almost got to have a conversation with you.
I almost got to hear you laugh
You almost got to hear mine too.

We almost got to swap stories in class
About which teachers we did and didn’t like.
I almost got to share my famous story
About when I was seven and crashed my bike.

But almost only counts in horseshoes
And life’s anything but a game.
There are no rules, just twisting choices and paths
Almost choosing life isn’t the same.

I almost cried when I heard you were gone
I almost mustered up tears
But that was because I only almost knew you

So it was almost like you were never here.
