Six years have passed, and now he's back.
“Stupid men…” I muttered to myself.
“Are we all stupid?” Asked a voice behind me. “Most of them.” I answered. I heard a chuckle and more movement. I turned to the man who stood behind me and gasped. “Nicholas?” I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dark, almost black hair, deep green eyes, thin and muscular…I ran and jumped into his arms, almost knocking us both over. He laughed and held me tight, running his fingers through my hair. “It’s been years, I thought you’d have grown up a bit.” He said softly into my hair. I pouted and pulled away, putting my hands on my hips. “Do I not look grown up to you?” He bit his lip to hide a grin and nodded. “You do, but that doesn’t mean you are on the inside.” He touched the tip of my nose with his finger and motioned towards my house with his hand. “I take it you still live in the same place you did a few years ago?” I shrugged. “I only stay there when I’m in town but yes, you could say that.” He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and we talked the whole way home.
When we walked through the door I sat on the couch and he explored the house. “It hasn’t changed much…” I made a sound of agreement as I threw my vest to the side and started unzipping my boots. He walked in as I placed the second one aside and sat next to me. “So what have you been doing since I left?” He asked, something we hadn’t really talked about on our way home. I sighed and pulled my knees to my chest. “I’ve specialized in weapons…” “Like, school wise?” I shook my head. “On my own, I’ve made it into a sort of…hobby I guess.” “You did it because of the creatures…didn’t you.” “Partly.” I agreed hesitantly. “Partly? What’s the other part of this?” “I started killing people…a bounty hunter of a sort.” He nodded and leaned back. “You’re still single?” “Since you left, yeah.” “Why won’t you find someone new? Get out there and actually look.” “Maybe because I’ve only ever loved one person. Can’t find that twice.” Nicholas was quiet after that for a few minutes. After a long amount of awkward silence he wrapped his arms around me and just held me. I closed my eyes, happy just to be close to him and warm. I breathed in his forest scent, pine and leaves, flowers and wild roses. It wasn’t long before I realized that I was starting to doze off. When he realized this he picked me up and carried me to my room, laying me on the bed and rummaging through my dresser. He pulled out a pair of shorts and a large T-shirt and walked over to me, helping me sit up. I stopped him when he started to pull off my tank top. “What are you doing?” “Helping you change for bed. Your body is nothing new to me, even after these past years.” I heard the amusement in his voice and gave up, letting him help me into the clothes and tuck me in. “Is all this really necessary?” I asked softly after another yawn. He chuckled and nodded. “Why of course, I have to make sure you’re comfortable so you sleep right.” “Sure…” When he snuggled in next to me in just his jeans I snuggled close and he wrapped his arms around me. “Goodnight, little angel…” I barely heard him whisper in my ear before falling asleep.
