A poem inspired by the Picture Perfect Poetry Contest
Harry Dawson Carroll

An Irishman in every way that one requires.
A friend far beyond my humble earthly desires.
I learned to love this man, his death cut like a knife.
He taught me the most precious lessons of my life.

I’ll never forget this man as long as I live.
If you had a problem, he would always give
Sage advice, showing his real being and love.
He had the kindest soul, like any from above.

I met this man before he wed my mother.
I hated his intrusion, like no other.
He changed my mind, by his faith and loyalty.
Greater men I’ve not met, not even royalty.

I’ll forever miss my stepfather’s knowing smile.
His kind nature and guidance will last a long while.
He was the best person in my life you see;
There is no replacement, of course there can’t be.

I am much older now, and sometimes I do plod.
I got my whole work ethic from this man of God.
He made my mother proud in their years together.
Thank you Harry Carroll, I’ll love you forever.
