This is a first poem, written at a crossroads in life. This is very personal to me.
Human life is like a giant oak tree
Every single being, including you and me.
In the beginning, so fragile and small,
and as it matures it becomes so tall.

As it evolves it grows thousands of branches
each of which we venture out on, unknowingly taking chances.
It's all right though, each is a learning experience,
as long as we can return to the strong, safe trunk knowing it's now past tense.

Every branch represents a lesson learned,
as we climb higher, be glad that bridge is burned.
Some turn out good and some turn out bad,
some make us happy, and some make us sad.

If we dare to walk out too far,
we coud fall to the ground.
In this life on earth,
there is no second round.

So why do so many of us choose to risk falling,
instead of clinging to the trunk and reaching for the sky?
Hanging on to those branches we'll never realize our calling,
if we'd just look around we'd see all the others passing us by.

So many only wish they could grow tall,
but aren't healthy and die while so small.
And some could be so tall so fast,
but won't look up as they cling to the past.

All we can do is give it our very best,
however, it is all planned out ahead of time.
Every branch we walk, just another earthly test,
but realize this oak can't control rain or sunshine.

These are gifts from God, which every oak needs
from the time they are conceived as little seeds.
So acknowledge and absorb every gift you were given
and be sure to use them if you expect to get to heaven.

But don't expect him to do all the work,
and don't think you can do it without him.
Money won't get you to heaven you jerk,
you'll need a true heart to get in.

As the trunk is the key to the growth of the tree,
it's the heart that determines for you and me.
So find, and use it, and get on track-
but do yourself a favor and DON'T LOOK BACK!
