The First Story I Ever Wrote
Beyond The Hills

Once there was a girl who had extra - ordinary powers. She could control the wind and fire. She lived in the village called Corland. She lived outside the village to be precise. The village was beautiful. There were houses made of wood and stone. There were horses, cows, mules and chickens there too. In the distance you could see mountains and when the sun sets it looks like someone painted a picture. In the town lived people but they were afraid of the girl because she was different. They thought she was evil because she was a demon but actually she was a half demon and half priestess so, the town’s people were half right. Everyday she had to put up with the jokes and criticism when she went to town. They come to her for help and guidance and if something went wrong they blamed her, even if she didn't do it. She never tried to get back at them and she never tried to hurt them. If they ever needed help she never turned them away.
One day a half demon named Edward was passing by and he saw small shack. It looked like nobody lived there, so he stopped and went inside. To his amazement the inside looked better than the outside. Inside was a bed, a little table with a bowl of something light green in it and some plants. There was a small fire in the middle of the room. “Wow the inside looks better than the outside. I wonder if the people living here will let me stay.” thought Edward. Edward was tall and had blond hair with hazel eyes that if you really looked straight in them you could see everything, his dreams, desires and hopes. He wore a red outfit made from the fiur of a fire fox.
“Hi” said a girl.
“Huh  Said Edward as he jumped.
“Oh I didn’t mean to scare you. Is there anything I can do for you sire?” asked the girl
“Yes, I was wondering if you could tell me who lives here?” asked Edward
“Yes I can. I do” said the girl
“Oh then I was wondering if I could stay and rest because I’ve been walking for a long time.” asked Edward
“Sure you can stay here. What’s your name?” asked the girl
“My name is Edward and yours is?” asked Edward
“Mine is Blackmoon. You’re a half demon aren’t you?’ asked Blackmoon
“Yea and so are you, right?” said Edward a little cross
“You are correct but I’m also a priestess.” said Blackmoon calmly
“How can a half demon be a priestess?” asked Edward
“Easy. My mother was a priestess and my father was a demon.” said Blackmoon
“Blackmoon” said Edward softly
“Yes?” asked Blackmoon
“Oh I was just thinking a pretty name for a pretty girl.” said Edward.
Blackmoon looked behind her but saw no one. “Are you calling me pretty?” asked Blackmoon
“Yes, doesn’t everyone?” asked Edward
“No. everyone says I’m ugly.” said Blackmoon. Blackmoon walked over to the table and puts down the herbs and plants that she had gathered and begins to clean the herbs and plants.
“Really, I can’t see why they call you ugly. You have shiny long black hair and deep brown eyes.” said Edward
Blackmoon began to blush as she said “Thank you for the compliment. Where would you like to sleep?” she asked
“By the door so I can guard it for you” said Edward
“Do you want a blanket?” asked Blackmoon
“Sure thank you” said Edward
“Here you go.” said Blackmoon as she handed him a blanket  Now if you’ll excuse me I have to finish this potion for one of the villagers” said Blackmoon
“K, I’ll go and chop some wood for you.” said Edward
“Wait you don’t---” “Think of it as payment for letting me stay here” interrupted Edward
“Ok but you don’t have to.” said Blackmoon
“Look I said I want to ok so let me I don’t like free things” said Edward sternly
“Well ok if you want to” said Blackmoon
“I’ll be back soon” said Edward
A few hours later Blackmoon went outside to gathers some wood and noticed it was sunset and decied to start dinner. Blackmoon started the fire and was cooking dinner for her and her guest. It was dark before Edward came back. Blackmoon had a bowl of soup waiting for him. “I’m back” said Edward with two arms full of wood
“WOW  That’s a lot of wood” said Blackmoon surprised
“Where would you like me to put this?” asked Edward
“You can put it with the other logs. Thank you for doing that for me” said Blackmoon
“Your welcome.” said Edward
Your dinner's ready.  said Blackmoon handing him a bowl
Thank you Blackmoon. Mmmmmm  This is good.
After a few mins Edward asked  Where’s the town at?”
“Up that hill but I don’t like going up there.” Said Blackmoon
“Why?” asked Edward
“Because” said Blackmoon
“Because why” said Edward curusily
“Just because, all right lets leave it at that” Blackmoon frustrated.
She calmed down and tried to hold back the tears.
“Ever since I was a little girl they said I was evil. I was a demon. They’ve mocked and shunned me. They've told me I was worthless” said Blackmoon
She found it was easy to talk to him, like she couldn’t help herself. It took a minuet for Edward to recover himself and when he did, he didn’t react the way Blackmoon expected him to.
“WHAT ?  exclaimed Edward  That does it, I’m going up there to teach them a lesson” said Edward angry
“NO WAIT or else they’ll blame me” said Blackmoon worriedly
“Why?” said Edward stopping in his tracks
“Because every time something goes wrong they blame me mostly because I probably caused It.” said Blackmoon
“Why do you put up with these people?” asked Edward
“I don’t have any where else to go and the people here depend on me.” said Blackmoon
“What do you mean “you don’t have anywhere else to go ? You could come with me” said Edward
“That’s a lovely offer but I just meet you.” said Blackmoon
“How about I stay here for a month and if you don’t trust me by then, I’ll leave you alone and I’ll never bring this subject up again ok?” said Edward
“Well I don’t know” said Blackmoon worriedly
“Come on what do you have to lose?” asked Edward
“Well, will you still be my friend if I don‘t?” asked Blackmoon
“I promise” said Edward
“Alright then it’s a deal” said Blackmoon happily
“Well I am going to bed because it’s getting late. Good night” said Blackmoon
“All right good night. Sweet dreams” said Edward
So they both agreed to wait one month then Blackmoon would decide whether to stay or go with Edward.  As time went by they got to know one another. Nobody could understand why he was hanging around her, other than he was a half demon as well. All they other girls were crazy about him but he rejected every one of them.
“Good morning Blackmoon” said Edward happily
“Good morning Edward.  said Blackmoon. After a few mins she couldn't surpress her coursosity any longer and finally asked    why did you reject all those girls, just curiose? I mean you could have married into a wealthy family. Why didn’t you?” said Blackmoon curiously
“Because I’m looking for someone special, not money. If I was looking for money I could have already married into a royal family but I’m looking for love not money.” said Edward
“Really? Wow you could’ve had a princess, why didn’t you take it?” asked Blackmoon
“I told you I don’t want money. I want love but it almost worked all I had to do was be the complete opposite of me. What I mean to say was she didn’t like me the way I was and tried to change me until I told her “no” and left the castle” said Edward
“Wow I can understand that if they want to change you then they mustn’t love you that much.” said Blackmoon
“You got a point there. People should accept you they way you are no matter what.” said Edward
“That’s right” said Blackmoon
“If only some people would follow that advice.” said Edward glaring  at the door.
“You can’t blame them if they don’t want to change” said Blackmoon
“I know it just burns me up thinking that’s how they treat you” said Edward upset
“Hello? Priestess Blackmoon, are you here?  asked a village girl  I’m sorry I didn’t mean to interrupt. I’ll come back later. “Said the girl
“Oh no it’s alright you weren’t interrupting we were just finishing up our conversation. Come in, what can I do for you?” asked Blackmoon
“I want to talk to you some more on this subject later” said Edward as he left the hut. Blackmoon was worried about him. She didn’t know much about him but it felt like he had become her first friend besides some of the children.
“Hello? Milady?” asked the girl as she tugged on her shirt sleeve
“Huh? What?” said Blackmoon Absentminded
“Are you ok?” asked the girl worriedly
“Yes. I was just lost in my thoughts for a minuet. I’m sorry if I worried you” said Blackmoon
“It’s ok. I’m just glad your ok” said the girl happily
“How are you today?” asked the girl
“I’m fine and you?” said Blackmoon
“I’m great. My mom sent me to pick up something. She also told me to be careful around you but I told her Lady Blackmoon wouldn’t hurt me. I like her.” said the girl proudly
“Thank you. I like you too. Ok here’s the potion tell your mom to drink one, remember one cup, per meal and It should do the trick, k?” said Blackmoon
“Kay, one cup per meal…for how long?” asked the girl
“Till its all gone ok” said Blackmoon
Right. One cup per meal till it’s all gone. Got it  said the girl
Bye and be careful  said Blackmoon
Bye milady, see you later  said the girl
Who’s the kid  asked Edward when he came back with his arms full of firewood
That was Sundast, one of the village girls. Where did you get all that wood?  asked Blackmoon surprised.
“It was something to do. Standing still makes me a little nervous. I can’t stand it.” Said Edward as he shrugged his shoulders.
“Well we have too much wood in the house. Why don’t you set it over there next to the front door?” said Blackmoon as she pointed at the space next to the door.
“Want me make lunch this time? I’m not a great cook but I’m pretty good.” Said Edward
At that very moment a dark cloud started to cover the village. It didn’t look like a rain cloud so they knew it wasn’t rain. It seemed Blackmoon and Edward came to the same conclusion because Blackmoon ran inside to grab her bow and arrows and Edward ran up ahead to the village.
“No, this can’t be happening” thought Blackmoon
“Milady, what are those strange clouds?” asked Sundast
“Sundast  GET IN THE HOUSE, NOW ” shouted Blackmoon
“There she is. The demon that’s trying to kill us” said one of the villagers
She didn't do it. You low life. demons love to feast on humans so they came here on there own. So don’t you dare touch her or you'll wish it was the demons that were killing you, got it?  said Edward
Where is Sundast? Where are the other children? We have to get them out of here.  Blackmoon said frantically
Blackmoon Calm down and breath. 1,2,3 InOk? are you ok now?  asked Edward worriedly
Yes, yes I'm fine now. I just had a moment that’s all  said Blackmoon
K, Now lets get down to business. We'll hold off the demons as long as we can while you get the women and children out of here. The men will stay with me and help me fight off the demons  said Edward
Are you sure your going to be OK?  asked blackmoon worriedly
yes. I can handle these now go  said Edward
but-  GO  interrupted Edward
So Blackmoon gathered the women and children and headed fro the mountains. They found a small cave near the top of the mountain. Blackmoon ushered them all inside. She stepped back outside to put up a barrier so the demons couldn't track their scent but one of the village women stopped her.
Wait, how do we know you won't lead them to us?  asked one of the village  women
She won't. She loves us. Even though, we have shunned her and blamed her for everything. She has always helped us when we needed it.  said Sundast
Have I done anything to hurt any of you? Haven’t I always tried to help and protect you? So why do you still call me evil?  Asked blackmoon
“Cause your different and were afraid of what’s different” said one of the women
“You are all different. None of you are the same. The only thing you all have in common is your human. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to put up a barrier before they pick up on the scent and come for us.” said blackmoon
As she started to walk outside Sundast grabbed her arm and told her to be careful. Blackmoon reassured her that everything will be fine. Blackmoon went outside to put up a barrier.
Back in the village Edward was knocking demons out left and right. When he realized that the demons weren't attacking the village but merely passing over it and heading in the direction that blackmoon was. When Edward figured this out he ran as fast as he could to where Blackmoon was hiding to warn her and if he can, save her.
“Blackmoon come out where ever you are. Hehehe” laughed a demon
Blackmoon didn't say anything. She kept her concentration on the barrier. The demon taunted her and threatened  her but she didn't move an inch.
“If you don’t come out then we’ll attack the village. So which is it? Are you going to protect yourself or the your precious village?” said the demon
Blackmoon put a protective seal on the cave entrance which allows humans to pass through but not demons.
“Stay in here and you’ll be safe. This seal will not let demons pass through.” said Blackmoon
“Just like your father. You care more for humans than for your own life. I never did understand that part of him. Sorry about the threat but your father told us that you had never met him so, I thought it might be the quickest way to get you away from them so we could speak. Now on to business, I am sorry to tell you that your father has died and his last words were “Protect my love and my daughter at all cost” by which I think he was referring to you and your mother. As his servants, we can not disobey. So from now on we are your servants.” said the demon
The demon was very big and didn't look so bad now that he wasn't threatening her or the village. He actually looked pleasant enough but Blackmoon knew not to judge on looks alone. Remembering her mother put a lump in her throat and made her miss her mom even more. Blackmoons mother was a powerful priestess. She protected the village and showed her daughter how to shoot a bow and arrow and how to purify a demon. She talked about Blackmoons father and how they met and how happy they were when Blackmoon was born.
“My mother actually passed away when I was a little girl. So I have been on my own since then. So what is your name?” asked Blackmoon
“My name is Kay Hiya and I will follow any orders you give out.” said Kay
“Ok my first order is DO NOT TOUCH THE VILLAGE EVER OR I WILL TREAT YOU LIKE ANY OTHER DEMON GOT IT?“ Said Blackmoon threatening
”Yes my master.” Said Kay
“And another thing, don’t call me “master” that’s too stuffy for me. You may call me Milady or by my name, which is Blackmoon.” Said Blackmoon
“Why call you Milady? You’re a powerful demon not a priestess.” said Kay
“I am a priestess and a demon but I hardly acknowledge my demon half. I only use it in desperate times” said Blackmoon like this
Yes Blackmoon. Do you have any orders for us?  asked Kay
Yes I have one order and it is to help protect my village BUT you eat so much as a animal so help me I will cut you down faster than you can say  I was hungry , GOT IT ?  said Blackmoon threatening
Y-Y-Yes Mistress I-I-I mean Blackmoon  said Kay nervously
Good. Now help me take the villagers back home. I want 2 demons on each side every half mile till we get there and you may eat 50 miles from the village.
As they headed back, the villagers were nervous that the demons were going to eat them any second. Sundast expressed her concern and Blackmoon explain the situation. When they got back to the village she explain the whole thing from beginning to end with every detail. To some of the villagers this proved she was a demon and tried to get the others to chase her out but they remembered how she helped them everyday and they got over it.
Life in the village got easier for Blackmoon as the month drew to and end she and Edward decided to stay in the village. Whenever there was danger the demons would fend off the invaders with Blackmoons help. The other demons learned that if they wanted to live then leave the village alone.
