Some relationships are hard to let go of...
Hello Father

Hello father, I carry this message to you from the heart.

My dreams and hopes for our world have been torn apart.

You say that you love me, you claim this is true.

But of these words I see a different truth.

Hello father, are you paying attention to me?

Good because this will only take a minute or three.

I have some words to say that you may not like.

Ponder them carefully before you start a fight.

You've hurt me more then words can say.

All the many times you took your love away.

You show up one year and say that you're sorry; you'll never do it again.

I believe you for a second, until I'm left alone again.

Hello father, are you listening? Are you still there?

Or are you only half tuned in, pretending to care?

I'm glad you're happy; I wish I could say the same.

I'm over twenty now and still have trouble hearing your name.

Hello father, wanna hear something new?

Your daughter, that's me, still cries over you.

I stay up late at night listening to you ring my phone.

I pick it up, slam in down, saying no one's home.

I hear your voice saying something along the same old lines.

Too bad you're the only one who still believes your lies.

Hello father, newsflash, I've heard it all before.

And just in case you're wondering I'm not listening any more.

I stare straight ahead as it continues to sound, refusing to bother.

That is until I reach the phone, sigh and whisper "Hello Father".
