"High in the treetops...There lived a most sanguineous bird..."
High in the treetops, complete and absurd,
There lived a most sanguineous bird,
A male parrot who was never too surly,
Known to his friends as ‘Early-Girly’.

An optimist parrot, so sublime,
Was Early-Girly, taking much time,
To relish friends who would never call,
While in his book, no appointment would fall.

Much nit-picking for this Early-Girly,
As he flew with his nieces, ever so burly,
To check out the skies from the highest branch,
To lend a wing at his brother’s ranch…

Ned, his brother, was a handy parrot,
Whose job, it appeared, was to give him a carrot,
To make the bird tougher and a little more stable,
But Early-Girly was never quite able…

Then came a storm which flooded the jungle,
Another cruel test for these parrots to bungle –
Ned and his family lay still in the hollow,
Waiting for Early-Girly to wake up and follow.

But the Early-Girly bird had fallen from the tree –
Was covered in mud and screaming helplessly;
His right wing was broken, as was his left leg –
And though he yelled out, it seemed pointless to beg…

Then came a tiger, who saw the injured bird;
His hunger was such that he wasn’t deterred –
Amid the rain falling, he bit the bird’s wing,
But the parrot had passed out, and didn’t feel a thing!

Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck the bird’s tree,
Frightening the tiger, who decided to flee;
The parrot awoke, as the hard rain subsided,
Shivering in pain with his left wing divided.

Ned found his brother, who told him the story,
About falling so hard, and the tiger so gory;
From that moment on, Ned cared for his brother,
And the family sought solace and strength in each other.

This energy and passion, such beasts do ignite –
The parrots with dreams and proud visions so bright!
Less fortunate souls do wander our world,
But this family tie boasts a flag most unfurled…
