poem written for the start of winter
Land of ill winds
glowing halo surround my vision
Wisps of icy snow sting skin
drifts around your feet.
I could touch you
but the space between
is monstrous and solid

This land is empty
except for the flow of time
and screeching winds tangling hair
words fall from my mouth
drip from my tongue
but fall short
rolling to a halt
in the valley between us

Eye contact glaring
I recognize your soul
Earth feeling foreign
together we find
we are alone
together we find
we are alone

Backwards footsteps
treading home
marching forth
we're all alone

Alone, alone, we are
all alone, we are
alone together
we are, we are
together, together
we find
we are
alone
