"Growing Older"

I never knew when I was little that "growing old" was just around the corner
I thought like any little kid that I was going to stay young forever
playing with toys, playing with friends, sitting in school in a haze
then came puberty and the dates, the parties and the staying out late
still then I thought that it would never end thought I was invincible and never stayed in
then one day I blinked my eyes and in front of me was my adult life
It all started with my first job I was so thrilled I thought I was on top of the world
then the time came and went and where it went I do not know but it was gone this I know
then one day I got pregnant and had my kid
the days got shorter and my patience became stronger
for I remember the days when I was so little and everything seemed like it would last forever
I look at my son and I just know that as he gets older he does not know that "growing older" is right around the corner.
