Ode to my wife Martha
LOVE'S SIN

If April is the cruelest month
Then what can May be?
If April is a time of poetry
Then May must be sorcery!

For in that merry month of flowers,
Of sunshine bees and dancing hours,
Worship did I at 'Love's Tower',
And fell sway to it's enchanting power!

O, Adam, now I understand
What led you to the fall of man!
An alluring eye, a forever glance
'Twas pre-planned not happen-stance.

Did eve have skin like midnight silk?
Kisses as sweet as chocolate milk?
Eyes that glowed like a million suns?
Of promises broken and things left undone?

Did she smell like the 'Garden of Eden'?
That left you aroused and your heart beating, beating?
Were her feet just one of her parts
Taken as a whole miniature works of art?

Was her laughter clear, azure bells?
Of wind in your hair and bracing ocean swells?
Did she hold your heart in those delicate fingers?
And make your soul soar like a screamin' eagle?

Was she like trying to hug a hurricane?
A mixture of 'mandrake root' and 'wolfsbane'?
Then when she smiled and glanced at you
'St. Elmo's fire' was ignited anew?

When the laughter is at an end.
And you think of her more now than then.
You feel the weight of that ultimate sin.
But for her you'd commit it again and again and again.
