Date: 776.M41 Medusa System - Medusa V - 0200 hrs "RANGE?!" barked the Tanks' Commander "200 yards. enclosing sir! She's moving, I put it around 20kph" Replied the spotter nervously as he peered through the range finder. "Main Gun, prep for fire!" Barked the Tank's commander over the roar of the engine. "Main gun locked and ready, sir!" came the answer. "Fire!" he shouted. The Leman Russ shook from the blast of it's battlecannon. Everyone was tossed backwards for a brief moment as the recoil took its toll. The inside of the tank was scorching hot, each man sweating enough to fill a lake. The Commander turned to face the Spotter, sweat trailing down the side of his battle-scarred face. "Spotter, stats of enemy armour?" The man quickly resumed his post, scoping the range for the hostile predators. "SHIT SIR!" ENEMY ARMOUR AT 12 O' CLOCK!" The Commander sprang into action, barking orders to the gun crew. "Main gun, prep for fire. Move it!" The commander shouted, trying to keep his cool. As the main gun was being prepped, the Chaos Predator centered it's Lascannons on the Russ. It retaliated... Spaceport: Verendac III - Imperial Landing Site 04 "Colonel Scot!" shouted a man at the end of the unloading ramp. He was quickly dodging between the guardsmen, in an effort to find a Colonel Scott of the Cadian 32nd. The man stopped at a table where a Commissar that beared the 32nd's Uniform Badge. "Excuse me Commissar, but do you know where I'd be able to find a Colonel Richard Scott of the Cadian 32nd Armoured Battallion?" "Ehh, should be over there somewhere, what for?" the Commissar interogated. "The Major General wants to have a word with him, he has his orders for your unit." "Ahh, I'll see to it that he hears, tell me do you know where we might find a place to refuel near here? After Rinsforq fell, we lost our refueling station in this area." "Ahh I'll have to find out, that'll probably be included in your orders, sir" the courier added 'sir' smartly, to avoid any punishment for disrespectful conduct. "Very well, you can return to the General's staff, I make sure the Colonel knows." "Very good, sir." The courier turned sharply and walked away. The Commissar walked down the hallway of a dimly lit building on the corner of the Street, the building that they had been assigned to rest and carry out 'off duty procedures' such as sleeping. He approached the end of the hallway and proceeded into the room designated as their Command Post. "Ahhh, Commissar, just in time!" laughed Major Brunsforth, a comedic character whose off duty hobbies consisted of Gambling and Drinking, two things that had made him well known to Commissar Redak. The Major held up a bottle of some sort of local alcohol, "Here, take a break from all that Comisarry buisness." he leaned slightly to the side, trying to hand it to Redak without getting up off the sofa. "Thanks, but no thanks Major, I'm on duty." came a cold and clear cut reply. "Where is the Colonel?" "Oh you know, taking a stroll!" Colonel Scott spoke as he entered the room from the other doorway. "What can I do for y- Dammit Brunsforth, how many times do I have to tell you about drinking on duty." "Hey, I didn't do anything irrational...yet." he laughed. Both the Scott and Redak shot him dirty looks. "...Sir" Brunsforth added quietly as he shrank back down into the sofa. "Colonel, the Major General has our orders, he requests to see you in person, assuming sometime in the next day or so." "Yaaayyyy, I can hardly wait."spoke the Colonel in a sarcastic tone, waving his hands in the air in a jokingly manner. "I also have the paperwork for the unit's Ammo stocks, as well as the dataslate you requested." Informed Redak presenting the papers and a dataslate for the Colonel to review. "You know, I would do my impression of our Grand Major General, but I don't think you'd approve Redak," smiled the Colonel as he briefly reviewed the papers. Redak looked at the Colonel in a disapproving manner. "Ahh, yup I knew you wouldn't" he joked, looking back down at the reports. "We also recieved word that Captain Hyderast of the Vlynoth 99th was killed today." "Poor bastard, he had a kid you know, it's a shame." "He was out at Line 67." The Colonel looked up, and the Major stopped fiddling with his canteen cap. "Line 67, what the hell was he-" "Don't know, all I know is that his Russ was tore to shreds, Daniels, Jack. All of 'em. Not a single one made it out." "Throne, they were a good lot too. Daniels bailed me outta a few fights back on Hygorrus, back when I was a Captain. Remember? Poor bastards. Well, that bit gives me a hunch as to what our orders might just be. I want Lieutenant Briggs and Captain Lietch up here on the double Commissar, I'll have to let them in on the situation regarding fuel and ammo. Did you talk to Major Bulow from the 45th?" "Yes sir, he sends his apologizes but says there will be no artillery support available if we leave tomorrow. They're instructed to relocate to Gyverrn, some serious fighting going on up there." Redak paused for a moment, his eyes following the Colonel as he walked across the room to the window "Orks, they're in for a treat, I'll say." Came the Colonel's blunt response. The sound of supply trucks and Chimera transports erupted out of the brief silence. "Looks like the 67th is moving out too, must be some brawl going on up there." The Colonel informed as he peered through the old cracked window. "Is there anything else you need sir? If no, I'll go find Briggs and Lietch and have them report to you immediately." the Commissar asked, standing very still, watching the Colonel as he glanced at the papers then back out the window again "No, that'll be all. Dismissed" the Colonel replied, turning away from the restlessness occurring outside. "Sir." Redak replied smartly as he turned and proceeded to exit the room... |
