Poseidon's Treasure

In the depths of the mysterious sea
a treasure trove hides from view
packed in stout chests banded by iron
entwined by seaweed, swirling sand and time

Poseidon has claimed it as his own
jealously he guards its glittering wealth
moray eels lurk amongst the weeds
tiger sharks silently patrol, beady eyed and deadly

it was lost long ago in violent storm
the ship disintegrated into the sand
its bounty seized by Poseidon's minions
glorious jewels, gold coins, porcelain and jade horses

A fraction of the contents he selected
for his own sensuous private pleasure

Sparkling jewels stud Poseidon's palace walls
he eats from flowered porcelain plates
gold coins gleam like stars from the ceiling
but the jade horses are his prize, his pride and his obsession

He loves their color, form and grace
their cool touch, proud prancing step
these were made for gods to possess
he will have no mortal look upon them

vigilantly he guards from human eyes
this rare trove of  royal treasure
fathoms deep in the murky depths
of the measureless mysterious sea
