Before I Met You

I can remember back to a time,
When my life was just a joke.
As if my head was held underwater,
And life was wanting me to choke.
But that was a time back then,
Way before I ever met you.
You lifted my head from the water,
And you helped me make it through.
Before I ever met you,
I was spiraling out of control.
I was heading towards a hell,
That nobody could ever know.
Nobody could see just how down I was.
Nobody could see through my eyes.
I was hiding behind the truth,
In a world full of lies.
You only learn from your own mistakes,
At least that's what people say.
But I learned by watching everyone else,
And it made me who I am today.
You've helped me get away from something,
And you're my only friend.
You're the only one who could save my life,
A life so close to the end.
I can honestly say that it scares me,
To think of where I'd be without you.
I'd probably be six feet under,
Or lost and so confused.
You saved me from becoming,
Something I didn't want to be.
And now that I have you,
I have everything.
