The horrific conclusion to the story that began as a woman afflicted with just a sickness. |
In the light from a single candle, the very same one Christine held to light his way to a “flu victim's” room,Harold saw his shadow fall across the master bedroom of the Rose mansion. His thin shadow waved in the yellowish light and fell upon a lump no more than five feet away from him.His knees gave out as he looked at the body in the blood-soaked blue satin robe.He turned it over, finding that he could not recognize the shredded, blood painted face.It's... her...hair was matted and so entirely soaked with blood that it was no longer brown but jet black. All of her skin was not a white color that you would expect, but a grey.Angelina had drained her.He looked at her neck for the place where Angelina would have done it and found it. Indeed, two perfect puncture wounds where the vampire's longest two teeth sucked her hot, salty blood in one long drink.Still Kneeling,he gently took the body in his arms and cradled it like a baby.He wept blindly and with such ferocity that he could feel his pulse pound in his ears.He realised it was his heartbeat. He also realised that he would never hear a single heartbeat from the mangled thing in his arms he wailed out into the night. His chest ached and cold blood soaked though his shirt. “Oh...Christine...I-I’m so so sorry...” For a long time there was only the sound of the rain pattering on the windows and his crying. It took him a very long time to realise that there was somthing missing from this picture. The vampire, Angelina, whatever hell it was, was missing. The fact that it could still be in the dim room made his hot tears stop flowing instantaneously. It could be anywhere,he thought. Then, just as abruptly as the tears stopped,he broke out in goose-flesh and a cold sweat. It could be just behind me... He took one long and final look at Christine's corpse. The silence of the room was killing him.He decided that he would have to move at one point, even if the thing saw him,so he made a plan.He decided that he would place her on the vacant bed and run out of the room as fast as he possibly could. But the hallways were so endless and dark... No. There were no other options. Whether to live or die,he had to risk his life. He stood up with the sickeningly limp body in his hands, looked around in the yellowish light, and saw nothing in the room.He placed Christine's body on the bed.looking at her face directly again he couldn't help but cry as he kissed her cold forehead.Would he be back? Would he even leave? The thing could be anywhere. It could have made itself downstairs by now.Harold looked around again, just to ease his fears, and saw nothing. Or,at least,he thought he didn't.What he actually saw made him first shake his head in disbelief and then scream. What he saw at the darkness by the door...was two white dots. It all happened very quickly. He was trapped in a room with the two red dots staring at him. There was no escape. He was trapped in a Iron smelling room with the thing at the door waiting for him.The door was the one and only exit. "G-Get away...." The vampire took one shuffling step closer. The single candle gave it almost no light at all...but there was enough.Harold saw the thing and because he was so entirely horrified he actually wet his pants like a small child. It was soaked completely in blood.Every inch of it,all of the red satin and white lace, all the pale skin, everything was coated in slimy, dark crimson. Harold thought Christine's face was impossible to recognize, but this being's was far worse. Those punches Harold threw and thought killed Christine actually were received by Angelina. The crunching of bone Harold felt was Angelina's jaw.It as how broken in half and dangling by a few strands of blood dripping flesh. He could see the white of bone and her bits of long, shattered teeth. Good...he thought.I wanted it dead.Now...why isn't it? Her nose was broken. One of her eyes was half closed by a vertically ripped eyelid. She had scratches all over her body, including her chest. You see, along with ripping her red robe, the top of her white, lace nightgown was ripped off completely. It revealed all of her chest, including her breasts.Deep bloody scratches and clothes shredding...it was all Christina could give to defend her life. "Get away from me!" Harold screamed. The thing winced at Harold's loud voice. Harold remembered that vampires had sensitive hearing so he screamed louder. "Go! GO! Ahhh AHHHHHGGHH!!!" The vampire inched towards him with it's arms out. Her clothes dripped blood on the carpeted floor, leaving a trail of blood towards Harold. Her fingers that pointed towards Harold were broken. They too dripped blood. Harold shook violently. He had no idea what to do.The thing inched closer. As I said before, the room was very large so it was only halfway towards him. It attempted to smile. The half of her jaw that was hanging on by strands of flesh shook while the other half of her face went up.Blood dripped down her cheeks from her bleeding eyelid ans scratched and it made her look like she was crying. All around the smell of blood, that tell tale irony smell, filled the air along with the stench of death and fright. Harold ran. He ran straight ahead and pushed the thing aside with the swoop of his good arm.The vampire almost fell, but only staggered. The door was open.He had no idea why when it closed (that was what made the candles go out in the first place, after all) it had opened all of the sudden.Angelina must have silently made herself over to the door while Harold lit the candle, opened the door, and finally waited for him in the dark doorway, hoping he would not notice her while she waited for him to leave so that she could kill him.But Harold had seen her.He had seen her and now he was sprinting down the place where his body would have laid mangled, probably forever. He would have rotted in that doorway, and in the same mansion where the old woman and Christine's soul had also passed. But he had seen her. Now he was running, running as fast as he could. He ran past the door way and down the dark hallway that sacred him so much. His feet sank in the rotted floor but he did not care. He rain down the stairs. A couple times he tripped over his own feet and scrambled up as fast as he could. He could hear the footsteps of the vampire close behind him. Soon he found himself running down the maze of corridors. The were completely pitch black. He used his hands along the wall as he ran but is slowed him down greatly. His heart pounded inside his chest so hard it actually hurt him.Harold, not remembering how Angelina shredded it,realised that his arm was hurting extremely bad.The pain was so great,in fact, that it,along with the blood loss, made him awfully dizzy as he half ran and half stumbled down the maze of pitch black corridors. Don't pass out,he told himself,Do not pass out or you're done for... He heard the footsteps shuffling behind him...growing closer. He ran faster. A few times he ran directly into walls but he didn't care. There was a bloody, assassinating, vampire behind him.He had no other choice but to keep running. Sometimes he swore he was going towards the thing, sometimes he thought he could hear it breathe, sometimes he swore he was in the same place again or going backwards, but he ran.All of his clothes were sticking close to his body with blood and cold sweat. His face was also damp with tears.Just as soon as he thought he felt a door...it was only a door to one of those empty rooms.Sometimes he got lost in those empty rooms and wandered around for a while with his heart racing in the darkness,as it had so many times before that night, just looking desperately for the doorway to escape.Just as he thought he was at the end of the corridors and near the parlor...he wasn't. And the entire time the footsteps grew louder...he almost swore that the murderous vampire was right behind him! He struggled to run. His legs burned and ached with running pains. And still, those footsteps grew and echoed louder. "Anthony?" The thing called behind him. It's voice was deeper and gurgling with blood. Harold was now gasping for breath. His lungs felt like they were just two bags of sandpaper in his chest....He couldn't take it much longer. He began to think about hopeless he really was.His lungs stung and his mouth was all dry.His arm ached. He hurt so much that he thought about collapsing there, right in the middle of the hallway, and letting the thing just kill him by ripping his flesh to shreds with what was left of it's teeth and drinking his blood in long, satisfying gulps until he passed out.It would be like falling asleep...The more he thought about it the more inviting it was,but the low call that bounced off the walls was so loud and frighting that it made his jump with one last burst of adrenaline. "ANNNNTHHHHOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!" He ran as fast as he could for an amount of time that could never be measured properly.By some miracle,he began to see rectangle of light in the distance. He ran towards it,crying tears of hope and joy with the footsteps growing a little more faint. As he ran the light it grew bigger and he soon he saw it was the candlelight pouring out of the parlor. Now he was running down the marble hallway, his heels clicking much faster as they did centuries before, towards the parlor. When he finally got to the parlor the footsteps were gone. He looked inside the warm room and saw that Leanne was fast asleep on the couch with a finished cup of tea beside her and the embers of the fire dying in the hearth. He ran to her and shook her shoulders violently. When she woke up her dark eyes grew wide. She saw Harold's arm, which he still did not realise was seriously injured, and almost let out a scream.Harold covered her mouth. "Leanne...Leanne.W-we must get out of here, your mistress has gone...mad! Hurry,p-please.Now!" Leanne nodded, her deep green eyes wide and her face pale with shock. Harold realised how young she was and how precious her life was. Together they ran out of the parlor, down the hall, and out the large door. They pushed it half closed behind them.No time to close it all the way. They were running too fast. Holding hands, they ran out into the night. It actually was almost morning so the sky that sill poured rain down on the backs of the two horrified people was a sapphire instead of black. They ran down the cobblestone street together. No one heard them, nobody ever knew where they went.Nobody actually ever saw them again. All that is known about the rest of the story is a few facts or maybe you would like to call them parts to a ghost story...most people do. Angelina eventually died in the house, just at the front door,to be precise. On their way out Harold and Leanne both swore they could hear Angelina cry with her dying breath "Anthony" over and over again. Her gurgling voice bounced off the walls of houses but, alas,it as to quiet and no one was awake to hear it.Even if some one did, they probably dismissed it as the wind. (As most people so wrongly do.) Because neither Angelina nor Christine had any friends, nobody knew that both of their corpses were in the Rose mansion, rotting slowly but efficently.So...they simply continued rotting in that house...forever.Fist,squishy,green mounds that smelled of bad oranges. Then, skeletons that smelled of flour (I kid you not),and then dust. The Rose mansion still stands with the dust of the bones of the two women inside and, like Robert thought, their souls still haunt that place along with the souls of the old woman and her husband. The Rose mansion is old an intimidating, but it still looks like any old "haunted" house. But someday someone will let themselves inside the mansion because it is actually a very nice looking place if you have a good eye for fixing up things like most people.Someone, perhaps a pair of newlyweds or a family (most likely a couple of daring teenagers on a Halloween night),will go inside,I swear it,and just as the soul of the old woman overtook Angelina and made her into the vampire or monster or whatever you may call it,the soul of Angelina or Christina will take over them and then some other poor soul....and again....and again. You see, humans do not change.Curiosity, love, hunger, all of those things do not change with the passage of time. And so...the same horror story will continue for an eternity. |
