Just a small fun poem, about the states I've visited, once or twice |
The States I’ve Been In I was born in the USA many moons ago Moved all across the land, even Ohio. Visited Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, But many more remained, visiting those was a want. Massachusetts has such history, Boston and more, Bunker Hill, and the Cape Cod National Seashore. But there were many more states calling to me, So I visited Rhode Island, Iowa, and New Jersey New York is beautiful, more so upstate than the city, Been to the beaches of California, surfed in Hawaii. I love the area around DC , but it’s not in Maryland. Every time I’m out that way, I visit there again, Been through the hills of Virginia, Bourbon County of Kentucky Dover Delaware was nice, yet still more called to me Indiana has the race, peaches are renowned in Georgia But I’ve been in that state, as well as West Virginia Florida’s full of sunshine, while Tennessee’s the Volunteer State, If I get to any others, I’ll be patient, and quietly wait Have been to the National Seashore in North Carolina Favre’s from Mississippi, not from South Carolina Connecticut was small, but not so Pennsylvania I’ve visited New Orleans down in Louisiana Michigan has the lake, Alabama has cotton The Sooners are Oklahoma; Illinois, is it rotten? Texas is known for being big, Kansas has tornados Nebraska? I really can’t say, but love New Mexico Mt. Rushmore and the badlands are in South Dakota While T. Roosevelt National Park is in North Dakota Wisconsin’s known for cheese, Colorado for its peaks Wyoming has Yellowstone, but there’s still more I seek Minnesota has ten thousand lakes, Utah has a salty one Missouri is beautiful, a favorite state is Washington Idaho’s known for potatoes; Arkansas, with this I’m lost I know I’m almost there, but man, at what a cost Arizona has the Dutchman’s mine, big skies are in Montana, Oregon has the Columbia, and silver is in Nevada I’ve mentioned forty nine states, I’ve visited once or twice But there’s one I haven’t been in, that’s not very nice Can you guess which one it is, which one I’ve not been in It’s really not very hard, just find that one, and begin! Jim Dorrell 08/15/10 As of January 4th, 2014, I made it to that elusive 50th State! |
