A poem from my book about what we are doing to the planet. |
I am the last of my kind, a dying breed, alone but for the sound of my own heartbeat. I was so young, now old before my time. Because I was So naïve, I let others walk upon me, now my fate is To be left behind. Gave life as I did, with best intentions at hand, but Foolishly I left my fate, in the corrupted hands of man. And take from me they did, never giving back to me. The kindness I had given them. Now so weak, a way To make them understand I seek, that I will not Sustain them forever, if I die, we all die together. Every resource they have taken, assuming I will Replenish, they are mistaken. Drilling holes in me, my wounds they do not see, They believe the blood from my depths will Somehow set them free. They chop me down, They carve me out, They cant hear my screams, Their machines are too loud. Then down into the depths of my seas, now no unexplored Ocean floor, no undisturbed creature, they destroy as they Please. And although I am so grateful, that there are some who try To protect me. There are not enough, of the ones that love, They shall perish with the rest of us. Someday it will be to late, when my heartbeat finally fades, And beats no more, no more places to explore, will they Share my fate, or abandon me for the depths of space. Will they someday realize there was a better way, that to scorch my surface, With their wars of fear and hate. Will they even care, that I nurtured them thru their birth. Or will they leave Me lonely like children do, forever the CRYING EARTH. Fackerell 2008 |
