beginnings of a story I'm working on
Grace Beaumont ran through the woods quickly, her long, brown hair once bound in a ponytail now flying free behind her. Her shirt and pants had various rips and tears from when she got caught on this tree branch or that bush. Contacts long ago lost and replaced by her glasses. She glanced over her shoulder every now and then only to see her pursuer, a figure brandishing a crossbow, not far behind her. She looked back ahead of her only to see a cliff. She stopped just before the edge and turned slowly to face the person. The figure grinned maliciously at the sight of her terror-stricken face as the figure's body shape came into better view, revealing a woman. The woman removed her mask so Grace could see her face, that of none other than Grace's coworker, Carmen Devlin. As voluptuous as Carmen was, her current outfit, consisting of a black turtleneck and khaki pants, was a huge change from what she normally wore at work.
"Looks like you've run out of options Missy." she chuckled.
"Don't do this Carmen." Grace pleaded
Carmen laughed. "You honestly believe I'll let you have him. Wish I could say I'd regret this later, but sadly that would be telling a lie. Sweet dreams." she shot an arrow.

The arrow pierced Grace's chest, knocking her back over the edge of the cliff. She screamed as she fell until she jolted awake, drenched in sweat. As she recovered her breath, a shaking hand lifted to her chest, searching for a wound or blood, finding neither. She swung her legs out of bed and walked towards the kitchen for a glass of water. As she sipped, she took a glance at the clock on the wall.

"6:30. Might as well get ready for work." After cleaning out the glass, she heads to start her shower. Thirty minutes later, she was dressed and headed out the door. It didn’t take long to get to work, once she was parked; it was just a few minutes’ walk to the doors and her desk. As always, she was in before her boss and began preparing his coffee as well as pulling together papers for him to look over. She had just finished fixing his cup right as he walked up to his office.

“Good morning Mr. McIntyre.” She greeted him with a smile and handed him the coffee mug.

“Good morning to you too, Grace. I see you’re here bright and early as always.” Chase McIntyre returned her smile with one of his own before sipping from the cup. “And the coffee is perfect as always as well.” He stepped into the office, sitting the cup down on the desk before circling it and taking a seat. “So, what papers do you have for me to look over today?” His grey eyes looked at her warmly.

She passed him the folder in her hand. “Correspondences from different companies that want to team up with our department.” Grace knew the folder was thick and did her best to keep her cool as she spoke but seeing those grey eyes with such warmth in them paired with the coolness in his voice was bringing a tint to her cheeks that she was sure he would eventually see. She watched as he flipped through the pages in the folder and looked them over. A small smile came across her face as she watched him sigh and run a hand through his short blonde hair in slight frustration. Seeing he was about to look her way again, she regained her composure. “Is there anything else I can do for you sir?”

“No thank you Grace. That will be all for now. I’ll call you if I need anything.” He smiled at her once more, before beginning to tackle the paperwork in front of him.

She nodded before turning and heading to her desk just outside his office. Taking a seat, she started on some of her own paperwork. As Grace completed her work, she drifted off into a slight daydream, one centered on her and her boss. She had always had feelings for Chase McIntyre since she met him when she first started at the company. However, with him being her superior not to mention his looks, she felt she never really had a chance. And so, she kept her feelings for him quiet. No one at the company knew, save for her best friend and coworker, Tara Williams. Now Tara Williams was the secretary for Carmen Devlin in another department, which didn’t allow them much time to meet up and talk at work, but they always met up at lunch and after work at one or the other’s house.
Grace was soon brought out of her day dream by the approaching heels of Carmen Devlin. As she saw the extremely revealing outfit that Carmen wore, it took all her restraint not to roll her eyes, especially as the woman approached her desk. Instead, she put on a polite smile, even as fake as it was.

“Morning Ms. Devlin. What can I do for you?” She asked politely

“Morning Grace. Do tell your boss that I would like a word with him for me.” Carmen answered curtly, leaning over Grace’s desk as if to flaunt the sizeable cleavage that it seemed made her feel as if she was better than Grace.

Grace nodded and used the intercom on her desk phone. “Mr. McIntyre? Ms. Devlin is requesting a word with you.” All the while, she kept her eyes off of Carmen’s cleavage, feeling looking would surely cause her to roll her eyes at the gesture which would likely then cost her job.
