A short poem about remembering summer as a boy
SUMMER SHINES

Summer shines
Off the cheek bones of a boy
Wading through
A creek where minnows scatter
Like silver
Raindrops on a warm tin roof
Drum drumming
Through the sun shower morning
Timeless tunes
Of still and silent hours
With nothing
Done and no new profit made
Except for
That which then fills up the soul
And wakens
The longing that’s felt when the
Low flying
Goose turns a man’s eyes to the
Vaulted skies
And, for one sweet moment, shares
Feathered flight
And escapes to a time of
Boyish joy
When all’s new and summer shines
