Mix some peas, potatoes, a girl's curiousity and a pair of fangs= One hell of a dinner.
There was something off about this.
No... There was something off about him. It wasn't me, it was him.
Jaden King had only been renting the room for one day and I already knew that something was not right about that boy. He was too...It was hard to explain or even put my finger on but It had something to do with his eyes. Slender but the corners hooked like the claws of a flying hunter, his black orbs daring me. They were almost always half concealed by his lids making him always look like he was hiding something.
And I felt like he was hiding something. It was BIG.
I'd never concidered myself the Nancy Drew type of girl who sniffs out secrets but today, I guess I was.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Jaden asked across the table from me, snapping me from my thoughts and I leaned back in the wooden table chair. My dinner was almost cold and barely touched. "Amaryllis?"
"It's Mary for the last time," I corrected and watched him scoop peas into his mouth. "and I'm trying to figure you out." His muscles tensed underneath his skin and his brown hair shielded his eyes as he looked down at the plate.
"That's not highly recommended on your part." I ached to find out what he was hiding under the folds of his hair and leaned over the table. I must've had a deathwish or some burning curiousity that I'd never possessed before but I HAD to know... what he was. I raked my hand into his silky brown hair and didn't have a chance to do anything.
Jaden grabbed my wrist tightly, his fingers like iron and snapped his head up, his eyes glaring. Shock robbed me of my senses and a wave of dizziness hit me. Plates flew off the table and shattered on the ground, walls beside the table I now laid on, my head half off and half on. Jaden looked down on me from above, his mouth open to allow sharp fangs a place to grow out and become deadly. His eyes were dark like he'd used too much black eyeshadow and it branched out.
"Hi, I'm Mary." I whispered. Weird, right? I just didn't feel like screaming. I had nothing else to say at this point. My head was still swimming but I guess I found out his secreat in record time. Jaden's brows pinched for a moment and he twitched a small smile.
"Hello, Mary. I'm Jaden, your vampire roommate." He stood, tensed and waited for me to do something. Hell, I was waiting for ME to do something. Should I scream and try to run? I should've atleast felt scared laying on the table where his dinner once sat. Yikes. Here comes the fear and my throat closed but I surprised myself completely and held up my hand in a friendly, shake-my-hand kinda way.
I hoped he wasn't gonna kill me.
I hoped he wasn't gonna hurt me.
I REALLY hoped he was gonna shake my hand and NOT bite it.
Jaden's fangs retracted into his gums and he met my handshake, relief coursing through me. The vampire living in the room across from mine shook my hand...
Sweet.
