I wrote this in memory of my Grandma, two days after her death in 2005.
A light went out in the world today,
For the spark that maintained it was taken away.
We watched you breathe, and breathe your last,
And then we knew that your time had passed.

We’ve watched you fade, grow old and frail
But the mem’ries you gave us will never pale:
Your passion, your joy, your lust for life,
Your love as a grandmother, mother and wife.

You’ve been fighting to keep your dignity
But that fight’s now passed, so go – you’re free!
Although we are sad, and mourn you still,
We do know that this has long been your will.

Go on, join your son; he’ll be waiting, arms wide,
And never again will you need leave his side.
Those who’ve been touched by you; family, friends,
You know that our love for you still never ends.

So Go, take your place with the angels above,
And fly there on wings of your family’s love,
For the light that went out in the world today
Will be brightening heaven, now you’ve gone there to stay.

In memory of my beloved grandmother, May McRae (died 3/2/05)
