The listening game

Listening is a skill
Acquired when you've no longer time to kill
When you've really sat down
and really heard
listening follows
a mouth's spoken words

It isn't hearing
which isn't the same
you can hear something
And never remember a thing
as it escapes out of the other ear
entirely missing the receptors of your brain

How have you come this far without being able to listen
How are you where you are when you can't even do more than nod like a bobble head chicken
as you fake like you know what i have just said
and i ask you to tell me what i happened to say
and guess what, you don't know.
how could you?

And it's funny.
I thought shit came back around.
for all the times i have listened to you.
bent over backwards.
never let you down.

the few times i ask you to just pay me a little bit of attention
you don't find me worth even the grime you find lingering in your kitchen

i'm not even fucking worth the dirt you step on.
listening to me is about as worthy as listening to a crow's horrid song.
My words are as useful to you as sticking your finger in an outlet
you'd rather swim with sharks
than listen to the words with which i come to part

well i am done being meaningless to you, you and you.
fuck up your life
I will smile and laugh
when that karma boomerang sneaks up and tears your ass in half
because i was the safety net beneath your tight rope
as you walked above danger
I was there to catch you
but you took this safety net and burned it to ashes
saying
fuck you i don't need you, i got this

the next time you need something
need it from something worthy
I don't care, give your shit to someone that does
maybe then you will feel the pain that i feel
when even your supposed friends don't show you the respect and time you deserved

listening is a skill
and you have yet to acquire it
I suggest you start learning it
or i'm not the only friend you will soon have to miss
