Up late and thinking about you.
I'll sit here in this field of daisies
until I see your silhouette peak over the hilltop.
I wait and stare up at the sky and see your face in clouds.
You smiled down at me and reached out for my embrace.
and just like that the wind swept you away from me.
So I closed my eyes and listened for your laugh to blow in the breeze.
I swear I heard you calling out to me
but it was only birds singing up in the horizon.
Jealous, I am of those birds.
I'd fly all through the day, just to make it in time to kiss you goodnight.
I'd stay if I had the chance. (we could be infinite)
I'd leave it all behind to be your shadow. (Lingering, in your background where I am most safe)
to be the whisper in your ear when your not sure. (so you can be sure of this)
I'm the image in the corner of your eye,
that disappears as soon as you look my way.
It's not your fault dear , i'm used to being invisible.
I'm afraid you've brought out the best maybe the worst in me.
I wish I knew which you prefer.
I can't imagine being the perfect sight, or the brightest spirit, (thats not me)
I don't expect to be the best you've ever had, (forgive me for what I still lack)
I couldn't measure up,
I'd just love to be the wind your hair,
The song in your head..
The very last image you see before you lay your head to sleep,
and the first when you awake.
The feeling you get in the back of your throat, when your trying to hold back tears
I want to be that feeling, when your heart skips a beat or two,
that thought, when you think "everything is going to be just fine."
