In Luna's drawer, I see her little heart. |
Just because she's so young, doesn't mean she can't understand loss. It comes in the form of goodbyes, naps, and things I take from her hands. I underestimate her intelligence, about self-awareness and time. For she likes to leave her imprints, and cherished items behind in drawers. Things that touch her become talismans, guarding against her being taken away too long. Sneaking away with head down in thought, she finds hiding places for a piece of herself. I see into the mind and heart of her, when I open her magic drawer. I see dreams and hopes inside, with my "borrowed" items beside hers. Time capsule created from knowledge, that things move and change in her world. She just wants to be remembered and loved, so I reassure her with deeds and hugs. Knowing I'm loved too, and part of Luna's drawer. by: Kimarie Manhart Freeman author's notes: Luna Sophia Manarino, is my granddaughter, and my little old soul. I am blessed that we bonded from the start, and I'm so fortunate to be loved unconditionally by her.
