Response poem to "Remember" by Christina Georgina Rossetti
"Remember," (Rossetti)

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

"Response"

I will remember you, now that you’re gone away,
While I am here alone, against what’s planned;
Now, in waiting patience I will stand;
My heart cannot forget those memories gay.
I will remember you in every single day
When I gaze out to see those things so grand;
Accomplishments that you have made by hand.
Until I see you once again, I pray.
I shan’t forget you and your luminous smile
Come back to me, and pressure you’ll relieve;
It’s dark and silent since you took your leave.
All the thoughts of happiness you’ve had;
Without them this world has begun to rile.
I will remember you and still stay glad.
