Meet me on the water
"Why do you think we are waiting in the middle of the ocean?"

Colonel Robert Boyd was the commanding officer in this maneuver. His hidden sarcasm was not so hidden for a man of science. Steven Hayes, civilian supervising scientist, was tired of explaining this over and over again. He did not like the military at all.

"Well, I really don't know. Maybe they believe it's safer for them to meet on water".

Boyd expressed a deep grumbling tone. He leaned over the instruments; again.

"Nothing to see, when will they finally show up?"

"No idea. The instructions were not all clear, but I'm sure we picked the right date."

"Maybe you made some mistake in decoding their messages?"

"We made progress in learning their language during the past six month. Anyway, there is always a possibility for errors". Hayes clutched the amulet in his pocket. It brought him luck in the past, and he really hoped that they got all the data correctly.

He twitched when the alarm went off.

"What happened?"

"Look outside!"

A giant whale emerged directly in front of the ship. It's huge fin sprayed a splash of water on deck. Hayes looked at the instruments: "There are three more approaching".

Within minutes, the vicinity of the boat was crowded with wales. Among them, there were swimming a bunch of dolphins.

"Any ideas, Mr. Scientist?"

Boyd had barely finished his sarcastic question when a large UFO appeared up in the sky, hovering directly over their and the whale's positions. The instruments were recording a message coming from the large flying object.

"What do they Say Mister Hayes?"

Hayes' face turned pale white.

"Colonel, I'm afraid they are not talking to us"".
