My first attempt. Short SciFi Story under 300 words. |
General Hargrove sat at his desk sipping at his tea. The incident was over. "I hate all this paperwork!". The big red "top secret" envelope, wrapped with cord, had a big seal. Two days ago, the CDC called for their assistance. Mysterious casualties in a small town in Minnesota within a radius of several miles. The DoD had just received a UFO sighting in the same region, so they decided to send the military. When my team arrived at the scene, they found nothing but a few remnants of slimy material. First tests proved that it was toxic, so they sent a few samples to the lab and had order to wait for the results. Unfortunately a strong storm was coming up. I had to decide what to do, so I chose to play it safe and burn down all the stuff. The envelop contained the lab results. Hargrove hesitated to open it. He knew, burning all the remnants was the right decision to prevent a spread of the decease. "Ok! Let's finish this!" He opened it to read that the slime was built from DNA like the human one. But it used different amino acids. They have also found neural activity in the material, similar as in human brains. Hargrove's face turned into a pale white color when he continued to the conclusion. "The material shows all signs of a living and thinking organism. The DNA is similar to human but using different amino acids, which raised an allergic shock in humans and animals. As far as we can judge from the samples, these seem to be living and thinking beings". General Hargrove realized, that they had just missed the first contact. Word Count: 283 |
