A chapter from the first novella of The True Knight series.
Chapter 2: Lisa Palmer and Rick Kreg

Heero continued the next morning, but he found himself quickly facing warriors from other clans. The Central Territories had many clans, each hunting down the murder of the Warriors of Might’s Ambassador. Without the Ambassador, the Central Territories found themselves in a bleak future with the Warriors of Might. Heero was able to thwart the efforts of the clans though.

Heero reached the town of Sevra, in the LRKP Territory. The town included houses, merchants, and a small outpost, owned by the LRKP. He walked to the nearest tavern and stepped inside. He sat down on a wooden chair that was behind a wooden table near the back, not wanting to attract attention. The tavern wasn’t too big and it was very dirty from constant travelers coming in and out for rest. He viewed the room, most of the people having a weapon or two, ranging from swords and daggers to crossbows and firearms. The waiter came and asked, “What shall I bring you good Sir?”

“Nothing...I’m fine,” Heero replied as his stomach yearned for fulfillment. But with no money, he could not afford food. Then, a tall, young slender woman with long blond hair, green eyes, milky skin walked into the tavern. She caught Heero’s attention but he shook it off. She wore a red button-up long sleeve shirt with matching pants, a uniform, with a matching cape and had a very long, very broad sword strapped to her back. The sword was massive, at least a foot wide and seven feet long taking two hands to wield. A man walked into the tavern with a red uniform behind her. He was a shorter than the woman was, with short, light brown hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. On his belt were two small, hand-held sub-machine guns as well as several pouches, to hold ammunition.

The two examined the room, searching for something. Heero couldn’t tell what they were looking for though. “Hey! You know your kind isn’t welcomed in this bar!” the bartender shouted.

“We are just here to recruit, nothing more,” the woman said.

“I don’t care if you are here to dance! You aren’t allowed! Your clan is always starting trouble here!” he said, raising his voice.

“Listen, we will be in and out in no time. Besides, this tavern is in our territory,” the man said. One of the customers drew his pistol and pointed it at the two in red.

“You LRKP members should do as your told,” the gunman wielder said. A few others drew their guns, crossbows, and bows, pointing them at the two. Others hid. Heero sat into the back watching the events unfold with his hand on his blade.

The first bullet was fired and the two dodged with amazing reflexes, their capes trying to catch up with them. The man drew his machine guns and fired at the shooter, pumping the man with burning metal. The other customers quickly reacted the fired their weapons. The woman pulled her sword out and blocked the bullets, bolts, and arrows with it. The man continued firing at anyone attacking. A few of the attackers pushed tables over and used them for cover. Others ran out of the bar. Heero drew his blade and got up off his chair. He ran at a group of people drawing their weapons. He slashed the first one across the chest. Then, he sliced the arms off the second. The blade then burst into flames and burned the next few people it touched.

The woman and the man took care of the shooters and watched as Heero finished up with the rest. Heero looked at the small pile of bodies. Puddles of blood dotted the wooden floor. Heero’s flaming blade died down and he put it away. The two also put their weapons away. “Well...who are you two?” Heero asked.

“We are the founders of the clan LRKP, Lisa Palmer and Rick Kreg. We are seeking new fighters, care to join?” the woman answered.

Heero thought for a moment. Then, the bartender came up from under the counter. He had a grenade in his hand. “Die!” he cried out and threw it at the three. Heero drew his blade again and batted the grenade with the side of his blade, back at the bartender. The grenade exploded, leaving the bartender mangled.

“Good reflexes,” Lisa said. “So, will you join?”

Heero thought for a moment. Heero could tell that the two LRKP possessed great knowledge, maybe some that would be useful in his search. “I might as well. I don’t have anything else better to do,” he said as he put his sword away. Rick held out his hand for a handshake. Heero looked at Rick’s hand and gave him a grim look.

“Not the social type I see,” Rick said and retracted his hand. Lisa laughed a bit and headed towards the door.

“We should be heading back to base so that we can officially let you into the clan.... What was your name?” Lisa said.

“My name is...Heero,” Heero said.

“Let’s get a move on, Heero,” Rick said as he walked out the door followed by Lisa. Heero looked around the tavern once more then left.
