My Response to a quote by C.S. Lewis to a friend, Marissa.
"Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."

-C.S. Lewis

My Response:

""To love is to be vulnerable", To love without return, is to be vulnerable..

To love and be loved, cared for in all you are. and to trust and be trusted is to be lacking the vulnerability brought forth by love lacking return. Truly, it lacks all vulnerability, while retaining the colour and natural purity of the human heart, as storing it in such a dank, desolate coffin, is sure to drain colour, fading ones heart to black, as it dies of forced loneliness, forced seclusion, and disuse.
If one loves and trusts one other, truly worthy of said love and trust, one must worry not, as their heart is in good hands, hands to be trusted significantly more than the isolation brought forth by the forementioned casket.

To love and be loved in return, the ultimate experience, for every moment of pain, every instance of misery, there is a certain happiness, a certain contentness far exceeding that which can be generated by mind alone, in doses infinitely more than those moments of despair, however infinite the despair may seem at any given time.

Marissa, love with return is truly a beneficial, self sustaining act, yielding results at which, the positive far outweighs the negative
