This is just a recommended reading list for Native American books.

This is a reading list I've made from a class taken in college (still have and love these books).  Feel free to look up these authors also.  You'll find some other books and information about their tribes also.

If others know of books that would be good to add here, email me and I'll put them in.

Books by Native Americans (though occasionally with co-authors who aren't NA)
and about Native American Tribes

Black Elk Speaks Re: Oglala Sioux medicine man, as told by John Neihardt. In conjunction with Black Elk's son who translated from Lakota to English.

Lakota Woman by Mary Crow Dog with Richard Erdoes (Re: Sioux)  (She married Leonard Crow Dog-NA Movements's Med Man in 1970's).

Ohitika Woman by Mary Brave Bird with Richard Erdoes.  (Re: Sioux also )(Hint: Mary Brave Bird married L. Crow Dog thus same author as Lakota Woman's author but diff last names.) -THis book picks up where Lakota Woman leaves off.

Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich  (Re: Chippewa)

Lame Deer Seeker of Visions by John (Fire) Lame Deer and Richard Erdoes.  (Re: Sioux)

Winter in the Blood by James Welch  (Re: Blackfoot Tribe)

House Made of Dawn by N. Scott  Momaday  (check on internet about his books-I remembered the name but can't find the book.)

Black Elk Speaks by ??? (I think Erdoes did this one also and I swear it is somewhere in my house but isn't with the NA books on the shelf.  Who knows?
