Our New Years Resolutions... |
The countdown to the new year brings celebration Balloons fall, balls drop Cheers, handshakes, hugs and kisses are exchanged Among loved ones and friends Closure to the 365th page in another chapter in life Thoughts of reconciliation, changes for better living Ponder in minds, floating around wildly like confetti through the night air Resolutions are made and promised exchanged for the new year Memories made throughout the twelve month calendar will quickly be replaced With new dates and new mistakes to take place 3-2-1 we’re done In a matter of minutes we will soon forget In hopes that this next day will give us the opportunity to begin again fresh Life does not rewind So we briefly pause and hope that things will be better this time This is the year things will be clear Swallowing our fears Washing them down with alcohol in fine wine glasses Little hats on heads held by elastic bands All dressed up in the finest threads A new day will begin Thoughts of forgiveness, giving and receiving We try to embrace as we celebrate Will soon slip away as the seasons change And we fall back in the Fall And spring into the Spring time We cannot turn back the hands of time Though we try but there are not enough hours in the day To reach the goals that were set too high 364 days before On this eve we will be everything we set out to be Or forget everything we tried to achieve And add more to the list of resolutions made the year before That we have conveniently stored In a little box marked things to do And placed in the back of our minds We continue to dance through the night Bodies gyrating, shaking hips, touching lips Embracing our loved ones, or whoever is there at the moment 3-2-1 It’s time to start over |
