Comparative poem between my mom and I, composed in my creative writing class. Grade 12
A thin delicate paintbrush
wise in the artistry of life
handcrafted of the finest sorts
fearless in the direction life might take her
a strong wooden body,
a flexible, creative mind
emersed in all colors
swirled in the most captivating pigments
turquoise, amber, deep purple
as worldy and cultured as her European origins
never leaves a painting unfinished,
leaving her unique mark on each one
she danced across the parchment of creation,
to paint the first of her three masterpieces
she started with the genuine brown eyes that she gave to her,
behind them she instilled confidence
she painted a slender body,
paying special detail to the hands that crave to explore everything
she dipped into bright yellow,
and sunkissed her masterpiece
then painted her mind, making sure to leave a little opening in it
finished with love, outlining her features with a quiet understanding
she stepped back reverently to see her creation
her masterpiece
her firstborn
her daughter
