So the snowman’s gone and melted all over our kitchen floor.
The reindeer all have fainted - the a/c’s very poor.
I suppose I should’ve remembered seven months ago instead.
But sometimes I’m forgetful, so I’m here in green and red.
We wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy New Year’s too,
although it’s now July and the tired elves are through.
The wreath’s hanging around my neck, the mistletoe’s up on the door
and here I am, a little bit late, because belated presents just count more.
---- (Writer’s Cramp entry 18 December 2009; Prompt: Must mention the words snowman, wreath, reindeer and elf. The setting must be in July. One of two rhyming poems I’ve ever seriously written.)
