Errors that make one laugh
Jacques Gracia was a Haitian General who committed many errors. Therefore, he was very popular among young students who often fabricated jokes about his mistakes. In fact, many of the jokes they used to make about Jacques Gracia stay in my memory for ever
During his adolescence, Jacques Gracia lived in a village near Port au prince. He had a girlfriend that he liked very much. Every night he would go to his girlfriend’s house to listen to riddles and learn proverbs from her father. He was by her one night when it started to rain. It rained cats and dogs. The rain did not stop until very late in the night. The girl’s father thought that it was too dangerous for him to go home. He told the boy that he could spend the night over. Jacques Gracia was moved by the idea of staying over, he ran at full speed to his house; he took his pajamas, and came right back.
Curious readers, by now you probably know the reaction of the girl’s father: he asked the boy to leave.
Years later, Jacques Gracia relocated in Port au prince. He joined the Haitian army. Although he did know neither how to read nor how to write, he gained fame and fortune. He became the right hand man of the Haitian dictator Francois Duvalier and reached the rank of General.
Due to political ties that existed between Haiti and Venezuela, a South American General came to visit the country. He stayed at the house of Jacques Gracia. The Venezuelan general was enchanted of his visit to Haiti. He decided to thank his Haitian equivalent for his hospitality. Before leaving the country, he said to him in Spanish:
___General, ¡ muchas gracias! (Many thanks, General).
Jacques Gracia got upset and corrected the Venezuelan General:
___ My name is Jacques, no Muchas; and my last name is Gracia, no Gracias.
