Love poem about my first real crush
I didn't want a frivolous
One night stand.  One meaningless night
that satisfies a passing whim.
No.  I wanted to take hold of you
and simultaneously
that part of your life you save for
someone special.

I know also that you saved that
something special for someone else.
You locked it away in a
glory box, showing it to no
one.  Then she threw the key away,
and you were lost.  And this I then
did for you.

Now I am set adrift in
a broad, endless desert.  It is
red with humiliation
revealed by the sun of the day.
And at night, the dark, black cold of
rejection reigns.  In the centre
stands my glory box.

Shining, new and untouched, you hold
the key.  I gave it to you through
a careless messenger, and when
you came ot open it, you came
to plunder and not to cherish.
I barred you, a guard enraged by
the wounds inflicted

By your insincerity.  Now
as I sit in my desert alone,
the worst thing I have discovered
is that I can't hate you for it.
