This is a story about a young man digging up old memories that where best left burried. |
Captured Life It was 2011 when David Buntley was sitting in his apartment in Texas. He was surfing the web for an article from the 1990s about his dad who had lost his life in a tragic robbery. David moved the cursor over a site that read man dead in home. He double clicked and waited for the page to load. As he waited there was a knock at the door. He was hesitant and slowly turned the door knob. He took a deep breathe and look outside his door. It was his Uncle Brucie. He had a big smile on his face as he dressed in his usual black and white jogging suit. Before David could ask him to come in his uncle slipped by him and made himself at home as he usual did. “What are you doing here?” David asked. His uncle replied “I was in the neighbor hood and thought I'd drop by.” Brucie glanced at the now loaded page on the computer screen and said “How you been kid?” David said “ Same as usual I guess.” Brucie said “Your dad was a good man it's a shame how he died.” That reminded David about the computer. He made his way over to the computer slowly. He sat down at his computer desk and skimmed through the paragraph about his dad to see if it had any clues as to who had done it. “Nope just another dead end.” David thought. He turned around to look at his uncle. He said “I wish mom was here she would tell me to be happy.” “Yeah.” Brucie Replied “But if she was here then you wouldn't be.” “True.” said David. “Well I guess I'll leave see you around sport.” “Brucie I'm not ten any more I'm nineteen.” “Yeah I guess so huh. Okay I'm going to leave see you later David.” “Bye Uncle Brucie.” David waited for the gentle and quiet shut of his apartment door. He turned back to his computer and look for more sites that might tell him something more about who killed his dad. He scrolled to the bottom of the page and clicked page two. The sites popped up and he quickly looked through them. He saw one that said Black Ops secret file restricted. He clicked it. He look through this file very thoroughly. He found a paragraph that stated that it wasn't a break in it was a planned murder. He read on to see if it said any about who had done it. It only stated that it was a double agent. He wondered why someone would plan to kill his father. He had nothing of value. He was a mailman for crying out loud. David stood up and stretched. He shut down his computer and looked at his clock. It was twelve PM he walked over to his bed and crashed down on it. He stared at the wall for what seemed like for ever before he finally fell asleep. When David awoke he got up, and got dressed. He headed to the door to leave. He looked at his room his green walls his blue queen size bed and he smiled he had it good for a nineteen year old kid who lost his parents. He stepped out of his apartment and locked the door behind him. He walked to his car and noticed a piece of paper on the windshield of his Chrysler Crossfire. He picked it up and looked at it. It said four words Betrayal, and Stop Searching. He looked up and dazed out of reality think who put this here and how do they know that hes searching for answers. He got in his car started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot to head to his work at the law firm. He got to the parking lot of the Johnson Brothers Law Firm. He pulled into his usual parking spot and killed the ignition. He sat in his car and closed his eyes to think just for a bit. He was curious about how someone new that he was looking for who killed his dad and more importantly why did they want him to stop searching. He opened his eyes and tried to focus on his work. He got out of his car and started to walk to the office. He got to the sidewalk and turned around and saw that a man was standing in the parking lot staring at him. He shouted “Can I help you?” The man replied in a flat casual tone “Yes you can help me. You see I need help with something. Something only you can help me with.” David answered “Okay what is it you need help with?” The man replied “Can you come look at my car?” “Sure.” said David. David started to walk to the man and stopped when he heard wheels spinning out as a van pooled into the parking lot and stop in front of him. He waited as the man in the parking lot and a man David “assumed was the one driving the van.” ran out and rushed him knocking him to the ground and putting a bag over his head. As David fumble and struggled to try and get free he was struck with a blunt object. As the light faded from Davids sight and he went cold and limp he heard one of the men say throw him in the back. When he awoke he smelled cheeseburgers and some sweet smell almost like chocolate...maybe a chocolate shake? He started to roll off of his stomach on to his back to see if he could find a way to alert some one of him being captured. He tried to move his hands only to realize that they had been bound while he was unconscious. He bit his lip wondering if he would make it out of his situation a live or not. He tried to stay calm he felt every move, every bump, crack, and pothole the van went over. He soon fell asleep partially from the rhythmic thump, thump, thump the van made on the road and also because he was bored. He awoke again and for a moment he thought he was falling only to notice that he was being carried. He tried to fight back and tried to break free from the grasp that had such a strong hold on him. Finally he gave up and lay slump on the shoulder of his capturer. |
