A poem dedicated to my late grandfather in 12/07. |
EVERYDAY HERO There is nothing in this world he can't face Footsteps to the path of peace he will try to trace But the devastation of war is knocking on his door and the voices of his country are asking for much more. This man I speak of is an everyday hero His life will amount to much more than zero In his youth he stands tall and proud His thoughts and beliefs he will speak aloud The war will end and life will begin On him now his wife and family will depend A career he has gained, off to work he does go While his wife stays home tending the seeds he did sew This man I speak of is an everyday hero His life now amounts to much more than zero In his prime standing tall and proud His thoughts and beliefs have been spoken aloud Grandpa gave me oats when I was young And He eased the pain when I was stung There was no wound he couldn't heal With hugs and kisses he let me steal My grandpa is an everyday hero His life has amounted to much more than zero In late life he still stands tall and proud His thoughts and beliefs are passed on to the crowd Now his body is riddled with disease And his pain, not one of us can ease There is nothing more anyone can say We all know he will soon go God's way This man I speak of is an everyday hero and though his body has been reduced to nearly zero His spirit still stands tall and proud His thoughts and beliefs are known by the crowd For in Heaven he will be a teacher His students will be many heavenly creatures His spirit will guide us all the while and watch over us through life's every mile This man I speak of is an everyday hero His life has amounted to much more than zero His spirit will remain standing tall and proud For his thoughts and beliefs will be passed on by the crowd. |
