Poem written in free verse
Driving home from your house

I look out my window

and see a blanket God laid

on the earth, his wife below.

To keep her warm this cold night,

To keep her wrapped up strong,

to protect her from our harsh ways,

to abate the night so long.

I see a man out walking

His babies out of bed.

I see a dog out growling

it’s on the prowl this night.

A couple sits there kissing

their stomachs tied in knots.

I just sit here longing

for a life that’s kept the plot.

Our city lays in peace now,

that I’m running out of time.

Earth sleeps in waiting trances,

she’s keeping safe our lives.

Your hand reached out to grab

As I fell to sleep again.
