The Werewolf of Halloween

As I lie quietly on this dark lonely hill,
waiting for children holding big bags to fill.
I dream of old memories of hunger and pain,
and hot crimson blood falling softly like rain.

It’s that time of year when creatures abound,
on streets and on sidewalks, in every small town.
Their numbers are growing and I take my fair share,
on each Hallows Eve, so children beware!

My fangs are well sharpened and dripping with gore,
my claws have been scratching behind every door.
My hair is all bristled and standing on end,
I'm waiting and watching for someone to rend.

You cannot out run me, you can not get away,
I’m faster than lightening, my victims might say.
There’s no sense in hiding, for you I will find,
I know all the tricks, every thought in your mind.

My stomach is growling and my nerves are on end,
so don’t look behind you, I’m coming my friend.
Your bones I will crush in my powerful jaws,
your flesh I will render, with my sharp deadly claws.

Your blood I will drink like a goblet of wine,
and on your soft flesh, all my neighbors will dine.
There’s no use in screaming, you'll never be heard,
for your throat I will slash, before your first word.

Halloween night is the best time of year,
for feasting and drinking with friends in good cheer.
Watch out for us children, we’re making our rounds,
in all the small hamlets and all the small towns.
