Safe in a gilded cage.
I know why the caged bird sings
It's a song of sorrow
And fear that tomorrow
Will be much like today

I know why the caged bird sings
She'll never get to spead her wings
And soar over anything
But the paper-lined cage

I know why the caged bird sings
She's stopped hoping for tomorrow
She knows nothing new will follow
Like her life is frozen in time

I know why the caged bird sings
So many things she wants to see
So many dreams of being free
But she can only sit in her cage
Where nothing will ever change
Because everyday is the same
